The Zoom UAC-8 is an 18x20 USB 3.0 audio interface that offers up to 24-bit/192 kHz resolution and near-zero latency. The rugged housing makes it suitable for field and studio recording of instruments and microphones as well as for onstage audio and playback streaming. It comes equipped with MIDI output and input connectors, so you can use it as a stable MIDI interface. The Zoom UAC-8 comes with 10 balanced 1/4-inch outputs and 8 TRS/XLR combo inputs with mic preamps. Additionally, a phantom power switch allows the use of condenser mics. This unit also provides a full complement of digital I/O, such as word clock, ADAT, and S/PDIF. Moreover, inputs 2 and 1 provide a Hi-Z instrument input for bass and guitars. The two headphone outputs feature volume controls for added convenience. It includes a free Mac app that allows you to mix parameters and add effects like echo and reverb.

Upsampling, Standalone Mode

The Zoom UAC-8 utilises high-end components including the AKM AK4413 digital-to-analogue converter and the AKM AK5388 analogue-to-digital converter. It performs 4x upsampling during both digital-to-analogue and analogue-to-digital conversion. In other words, when the sampling frequency is set to 48 kHz or 44.1 kHz, the Zoom UAC-8 processes the signal at a high resolution of 192 kHz or 176.4 kHz. For D/A conversion, this means increased clarity and fidelity; for A/D conversion, this means less aliasing noise. In standalone mode, you can use the Zoom UAC-8 as an eight-channel microphone pre-amp and digital-to-analogue or analogue-to-digital converter without connecting to your PC.

UAC-8 MixEfx is a free Windows and Mac compatible app developed specially by Zoom for the UAC-8. It offers a comprehensive onscreen mixer, with independent level, panning control, and phase reversal for each channel. This powerful software also lets you freely route all inputs to all outputs and create custom mixes. Additionally, this software features effects including echo and reverb to enhance the audio quality.
