Waist belts for photographers are the perfect way to ensure your camera is always to hand. Rather than having to root through a backpack or shoulder bag whenever you want to take a shot, having your kit on a waist belt means you can react quickly. Belts and waist bags vary significantly, both in terms of form factor and capacity, so it’s worth taking the time to figure out which one is right for your setup.
Some waist belts are quite simply waist-mounted bags. Also referred to as fanny packs, bum bags or any number of similar names, these types of belts allow you to keep your gear covered and close at hand. Many such bags offer a surprising amount of storage space, with some variants offering enough room to accommodate a full-frame camera system. There will also often be additional pockets to store essential items such as SD cards, lens caps and batteries (not to mention your phone and cards). In some cases there will also be a clip to attach your keys.
