Expanded Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 Di III Key Features:

Wide-Angle to Telephoto Versatility

Characterised as a wide to a telephoto-length zoom lens, the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 Di III is well-suited to working in variable lighting conditions whilst offering superior depth of field control for isolating specific subject matter. This allows for bright, colour-accurate portrait photography, with the rounded 9-blade diaphragm contributing to a delicate bokeh that surrounds the subject within the frame. The 35mm and 50mm ranges are ideal for exploring cityscapes and interior architecture; illustrating its all-around versatility well-suited to travelling photographers. To further improve handheld shooting, this lens implements VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilisation, which actively reduces camera shake by five stops.

Close-Up Photography

When shooting at the 35mm wide-angle end, the MOD (Minimum Object Distance) stands at 0.33m, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.7. In short, this allows you to centre your frame around a particular subject by creating a background bokeh aesthetic. This draws the focus to your subject and encourages more creative freedom across a wide range of photographic disciplines.

Ergonomics

Another key improvement is the exterior ergonomics of this 2nd-gen lens. It features an improved tactile grip texture on both the focus and zoom rings that afford smoother and more precise manipulation. This results in more accurate images, as well as providing an enhanced premium feel to the overall build. It also features a shinier, more glossy finish that further adds to its overall quality and style. Finally, this lens has been built with reliable moisture resistance that whilst not being fully weather-proof, does mean that it is incredibly well-suited to travel photography.

Our Review

Why we love the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 Di III for Sony E:

  • The 35-150mm focal range offers such a wide variety of shooting options that you could get away with only taking this lens on trips.
  • Its wide-angle minimum close focus is 33cm and at the tele-end is 85cm. So, you can make use of this to increase your shooting options even further.
  • Wide and fast maximum apertures across the focal length provide greater control of lighting and depth of field.
  • The speed of AF, when paired with the likes of the Sony A7R IV or A7S III, provides an impressive level of accuracy and sharpness.
  • Use this lens for:

    • We tested this lens in the Scottish Highlands, and as such, we made full use of the landscapes and wildlife available to us. And, of course, the lens excelled at capturing these scenes. But, we noted how easily you could turn this lens to events, travel and even street photography. The wide focal range is well suited to art-based travel.
    • It’s highly efficient and produces excellent results for both photography and video scenes.
    • Look and feel:

      • This lens has a sleek and professional look, seamlessly matching the look and feel of the premium Sony mirrorless cameras that it is intended for.
      • It’s described as compact - we’ll let you be the judge of that. Perhaps it’s the small nature of the Sony E mirrorless cameras that make it feel larger than other similar lenses - on a DSLR, this would look normal!
      • Is it better?

        • The specialised lenses used, such as low dispersion and hybrid aspherical elements, make a noticeable difference. They reduce distortion and result in a higher resolving power over past models.
        • As mentioned previously, the use of those elements also results in a more compact profile which contributes to that art-based travel style of photography.
        • What’s in the box?

          • 1 x Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 Di III
          • 1 x Front Lens Cap
          • 1 x Rear Lens Cap
          • 1x Flower-Shaped Hood
