Expanded Sigma 20mm f2 DG DN I Contemporary Lens Key Features:
Optical Performance
The Sigma 20mm f2 DG DN I Contemporary Lens inherits all the exceptionally high standards of optical performance seen across the Contemporary lens series. It is equipped with Sigma’s latest optical technology and an advanced and intricate optical structure that results in phenomenal image quality.
This pathway is made up of 13 elements in 11 groups, including 3 high-precision glass-moulded aspherical lens elements, 1 SLD element, and 1 FLD element to suppress a range of optical aberrations. The result of this arrangement of lenses is clearer, sharper images that require less postprocessing. In addition, the lens is equipped with a Super Multi-Layer Coating and NanoPorous Coating (NPC) that ensures minimal flare and ghosting even in backlit conditions.
Aperture Diaphragm
With a super-wide-angle field of view, 94.5° to be exact, this is a lens well suited to a range of different photographic disciplines. Aiding this is the wide, bright and fast maximum f2 aperture diaphragm. The 9-bladed aperture allows you to not only shoot in low-light conditions such as evening or even night-sky photography, but it offers enhanced control of depth of field. This is particularly effective when utilising the 22cm minimum focusing distance where you can play with perspective as well as produce beautifully circular and natural-looking bokeh.
Autofocus System
This lens is equipped with an internal focusing system that is able to match the speed of its intended camera bodies. Compatible with high-speed autofocus systems, the advanced stepping motor offers fast, quiet and impressively accurate autofocus performance. But when needs must and a more fine-tuned focus is needed, this lens features a Focus Mode Switch that allows you to utilise manual focus operation.
Japanese Craftmenship
As with the whole ‘I’ series of Sigma lenses, this 20mm f2 lens has an all-metal construction. Made from precision-cut aluminium parts, this lens is sleek, tactile and ergonomic. The use of aluminium also provides superb durability in all areas of the lens, both inside and out. As well as this, the lens is fitted with a high-precision, durable and dust/splash resistant brass bayonet mount.
Adding to its ergonomics, the lens features a cover ring between its individual focus and aperture rings that has the same hairline processing that is used in Sigma’s Art line lenses. This covering acts as a finger hold when attaching and detaching the lens to the camera body.
