Expanded Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens Key Features:
Expansive f2.8 Aperture
The Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens has a large f2.8 aperture, whilst covering 27mm - 75mm in the 35mm format. In short, this encourages the production of a smooth bokeh aesthetic to sit behind the in-focus subject. This is especially prevalent when shooting close-up portraiture, further complemented by an intricately crafted optical configuration to include 13 lens elements within 10 key groups. In particular, the 3 high-precision glass-moulded aspherical elements combined with the minimisation of the total number of elements aid in the output of quality imagery across the board. In-camera aberration correction further eliminates optical imperfections to include distortion and vignetting.
Compact and Lightweight Design
This lens boasts a lightweight, compact design to match the outstanding portability of APS-C mirrorless camera bodies. By doing so, it stands as an ideal day-to-day lens that is both reliable and one of the smallest within its class. To detail this further, the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN boasts a maximum diameter of 65.4mm, a length of 74.5mm, and weighs in at just 290g. To do this and still maintain a constant aperture of f2.8, that’s seriously impressive.
Sigma pride themselves on build quality. With this lens being no exception, utilising a central polycarbonate material called Thermally Stable Composite (TSC). This material is sleek and incredibly robust, whilst also having a thermal conductivity close to that of aluminium. To simplify, this allows for stable performance and operability in varying temperatures, whilst key internal components have been crafted from metal to allow them to be thinner and more rigid. Again, this is massively beneficial for on-the-go creators looking for a reliable lens to stand up to heavy amounts of use.
Suited to Various Photographic Disciplines
The 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN stands as an incredibly versatile imaging tool suited to a wide range of photographic disciplines. Due to its fast and near-silent AF system, you can rely on this lens when recording more intimate pieces to camera, shooting stills in quiet interior spaces, and also when capturing fast-moving subjects. This is predominantly down to the stepping motor being used as the AF actuator. It is also incredibly well-suited to handheld work on the go, gimbal shooting, vlogging, and one-person video productions.
Further to this, the 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN combines exceptionally well with the full-frame Sigma fp L digital camera system. This specific combination weighs just 712g, which is perfect for content creators looking for a reliable, lightweight, and high-functioning camera setup to be used as a professional standard. In addition, this lens can also be used as a sub-lens alongside select full-frame cameras (used in crop mode).
