More about our range of roof prism binoculars
What are roof prism binoculars for?
Roof prism binoculars come in a wide range of lens diameters and magnification. Because the name refers to the engineering design, not a feature of the binoculars, they can be used for a wide variety of things.
How do roof prism binoculars work?
Roof prism binoculars draw in and magnify light through the body ‘in-line’. This is the main difference between roof prism and Porro prism, which have lenses further apart than the eyepieces.
Do I need roof prism binoculars?
Because the lenses and eyepieces are in line with a roof prism design, they are more compact and streamlined. Our customers love the look and how compact they are.
Because the alternative - porro prism binos - have the lens pieces further apart, this can provide a wider field of view. This is a compromise some of our more serious customers are happy to make for the sake of clarity oversize.
Browse Binoculars by Size
When buying a pair of binoculars you will soon notice that each pair has a set of two numbers following their name, such as “7x50” or “8x32”. The first figure is the magnification, which indicates the number of times larger an object will appear when viewed. The second figure indicates the size of the object lens in mm; the larger it is, the brighter the images will seem. View our Binoculars Buying Guide for more information »
