Enjoy Unique Film Camera Manual Operation
Drawing upon inspiration from years of experience, the Pentax 17 offers the image quality and experience of a classic film camera, including a range of manual options. It is equipped with the half-size format, which captures two 17mm x 24mm pictures in a single 35mm format frame (36mm x 24mm). The camera uses a horizontal film advance mechanism to move the film forward, capturing vertical images like a smartphone when positioned normally. It incorporates a manual film winding mechanism based on those seen in Pentax-brand SLR film cameras with a film advance lever and a wind-up sound after every shutter release for a traditional film camera feel. The film-loading system is designed to prevent errors and make it accessible for beginners. Other features to complete the manual operation style include film rewinding and dials for ISO sensitivity and Exposure compensation.
Newly Developed Fixed Focal-lens
To modernise the well-established film camera and fit the half-size format, the Pentax 17 has a newly developed 25mm f3.5 fixed-focal-length lens (equivalent to 37mm in 35mm format). It’s treated with a multi-layer HD (High Definition) coating to deliver clear, sharp half-size pictures. The lens is based on optics from the Pentax Espio Mini and the lens from the Ricoh Auto Half to create the ideal film camera for everyday shooting.
Suitable for a Range of Shooting Scenarios
The Pentax 17 has a range of features that provide options to suit various shooting scenarios. First, it offers a handy zone-focus system featuring a simple selection of zone marks. These marks make it easy to change the area that’s in focus when capturing pictures. There are six focus zones ranging from close-ups to long distances, including a Macro focus zone with a minimum focusing distance of around 25cm, which is ideal for close-up shooting. You can check the zone marks using the viewfinder.
Regarding shooting modes, the Pentax 17 has seven, including Full Auto mode. In this mode, the camera conveniently selects all exposure settings, which is excellent for beginners or when you’re short on time. It also assists you in taking more creative pictures with modes like Slow-speed sync for twilight photography or Bulb for shooting at night or shooting fireworks. The camera has an Albada-type bright frame optical viewfinder, which allows you to view your subjects and composition clearly in real-time before you capture them. It incorporates a close-up visual field compensation frame to assist you in composing close-up images, offering excellent versatility.
Lightweight and Traditional Design
The Pentax 17’s design is inspired by traditional film cameras, providing the kit with a retro look and feel while offering practical functionality. Providing extra durability but ensuring it remains lightweight and portable, the top and bottom covers are made of magnesium alloy, solidifying that classic look. The camera body also offers excellent hardware features to assist you in your shooting. A note holder on the back cover lets you insert the end of your film package for easy reference, and there are three strap lugs, enabling easy transitions between horizontal and vertical shooting.
