Improved AF Performance

Panasonic’s Lumix S5 II improves over its predecessor thanks to a suite of new features - including a new imaging engine. Developed within the L Technology partnership between Leica and Lumix, the S5 II sports a new 24-megapixel sensor that offers Hybrid Phase Detection Auto-Focus. Combining the Hybrid Phase Detection AF with Contrast Detect AF allows fast and dependable results when shooting stills or video.

With 779-area metering, this new AF system can detect target subjects in low light, backlight and other difficult conditions. The system will constantly track the subject even when there are other moving objects within the frame. Not stopping there, continuous AF during zooming and AF micro adjustments are also available.

Outstanding Video Functions

With a new engine comes new video recording capabilities. The S5 II can record 4:2:0 10-bit 6K video at 30fps, as well as 5.9K at 30fps in a 16:9 ratio and 4K at up to 60fps. High Frame Rate recording at up to 120fps is also supported, as well as Slow & Quick capture at up to 180fps. When using the camera on long shoot days, a new low-profile heat management system allows unlimited recording times so you can keep shooting and never miss a moment.

Footage always looks stunning thanks to a range of picture profiles including 14+ stop V-Log and V-Gamut. A new Real Time LUT function enables colour grading LUTs to be uploaded to an SD card and applied directly to the camera, eliminating time-consuming post-production work. For audio capture, a built-in microphone is capable of recording clear 48kHz/24-bit audio and external XLR microphones can be attached to the camera for recording 98kHz/24-bit audio.

Versatile Photo Features

As well as for video, the S5 II is perfect for delivering professional photo performance. High-speed burst shooting at up to 9fps with the mechanical shutter and 30fps with the electronic shutter will let you capture fast moving objects in crystal-clear clarity. For maximum image quality, a 96-megapixel High-Resolution Mode takes photos in JPEG and RAW files, whilst the Dual Native ISO sensitivity minimises noise and allows a maximum ISO of 51200 and 204800 when extended.

Reliable and Versatile

The S5 II has been ergonomically designed to make photo and video shoot effortless. Workflows are minimised with the use of AWB Lock, MF Assist and a new Live Crop function which records footage using the entire sensor surface allowing 4K and FHD images to be cropped out. A 3-inch free-angle touch-control monitor and 3,680K-dot OLED Live Viewfinder make viewing and capturing images easier than ever.

For shooting in any environment and condition, the S5II sports magnesium alloy die-cast front and rear frames, and a splash- and dust-resistant construction. The camera’s connectivity options include a full-size HDMI Type A terminal and high-speed USB 3.2 Gen 2, or for wireless use an improved Wi-Fi 5Ghz connection to smartphones and tablets. Dual card slots that both use UHS-II cards support Relay Recording, Backup Recording and Allocation Recording.
