Exceptional Video

Taking up the mantle of Nikon’s most powerful video performance camera system, the Z9 has the capacity to shoot up to 125 minutes of 8K UHD/30p footage. This is all thanks to the intricately designed heat dissipation technology, whilst further supporting 4K UHD at 120p/60p/30p. The ability to shoot 4K UHD at 120p truly sets the Z9 apart, with enhanced support for Nikon's original "NLog" and HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) recording with 10bit. Tailored to high-grade professional image workflows, the Z9 also supports ProRes 422 HQ, as well as 12bit RAW video over 8K/60p. Another impressive feature is the ability to shoot without screen cropping, which means that you can now edit video footage with the same angle of view at variable frame rates.

Optimised for high-speed, action-packed video productions, the Nikon Z9 further implements a range of user-centric functions to include Nikon’s first vertical and horizontal 4-axis tilt-type image monitor, electronic image stabilisation, and both a standard and vertical grip with 3 additional function buttons. Autofocus Performance

Nikon’s Z9 camera body is equipped with some of the fastest autofocusing performance ever seen in a camera body. This highly advanced AF system works seamlessly throughout both photographic and video applications, reliably acquiring focus so that you can record decisive, impactful moments. Through new deep-learning algorithms, the Z9 boasts the world's largest number of detectable AF subjects including not only the traditional subjects of people, dogs, and cats but now birds, bicycles, motorcycles, cars, trains, and aeroplanes. Furthermore, this subject detection can be set to auto where the Z9 will automatically detect these subjects without the need to change settings in-camera and therefore, allowing you to pay more attention to composition.

Until now, Nikon’s 3D Focus Tracking technology has been an exclusive feature of their DSLR camera range. The Z9 features this invaluable function that automatically shifts the focus point to follow the movement of your subject. With a half-depressed shutter button, the Z9 will continuously maintain focus as the subject moves, even in fast-paced environments. This system has been optimised with a highly intelligent predictive algorithm that takes a measurement of your subject's movement and speed and anticipates where the focus will need to be when the shutter is released. Further enhancing the AF performance, with emphasis on the high-speed continuous shooting of fast-paced subjects, the Z9 features Nikon’s proprietary technology - Overlap Servo. This advanced system prepares the camera for what the AF detection picks up next while the lens-driving operation for the current shot is in process.

A New Body Design

Another first for Nikon is the multi-axis tilting monitor. This is an incredibly useful addition to the Z9, as it actively supports freelance photographers and videographers looking to take a more dynamic approach to their craft. The LCD screen can now be moved in accordance with your shooting style, with a clear emphasis on speed, efficiency, and creativity when interacting with your subject. It doesn’t stop there, with the 8cm 3.2-type LCD monitor consisting of approximately 2.1 million dots, whilst supporting a versatile 170° viewing angle and 100% brightness adjustment.

Following in the footsteps of the D6 and 1D X Mark II, the Nikon Z9 features a more substantial body reminiscent of professional DSLR systems. This is in reference to both the standard and vertical grips, as well as the dual-control inputs. In short, this leads to a more rugged, functional, and heavier-set exterior design, which should feel very familiar to professional events, wildlife, and sports photographers and videographers. Specific to still-image creators, the Z9 features a bright 1.27cm (0.5 inch) Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder with approximately 3.69 million dot resolution.
