The Leica Q2 Monochrom maintains many of the elements of the Q2 system but the 47.3MP full-frame sensor has been reengineered without a colour filter array or low-pass filter, resulting in exclusively black-and-white images with greater dynamic range, sharpness and detail. Other than changes to the sensor, the Q2 Monochrom body is accompanied by the same Maestro II Image Processor and fixed 28mm Summilux f/1.7 ASPH lens. Together, the lens and camera can still capture stunning images and beautiful 4K video footage. On the exterior, the Q2 Monochrom has had a monochrome make-over. Leica has given the camera matte black finish with grey and white engravings on the top plate and body. The Leica red dot has also been removed which with the monochrome look gives this camera a sleeker and more discreet finish.

Expanded Leica Q2 Digital Camera Key Features:
Monochrom
The Leica Q2 Monochrom is closely based on the standard Q2, maintaining many of the technical elements of the Q2 system but the 47.3MP full-frame sensor has been engineered without a colour filter array or low-pass filter. This results in exclusively black-and-white images as well as providing greater dynamic range, sharpness and detail, as well as a softer tonal feel. In addition to this, because there are no colour filters, this allows each pixel to receive more light and therefore the Q2 Monochrom provides significantly better low-light performance, offering cleaner images with less noise.
Other than the sensor, the lens has been equipped with a dedicated built-in macro feature which offers even more range for your photography. But as a result of this, the maximum aperture has been lowered to f2.8, but this will still provide you with all that is needed to produce beautiful imagery. Then there the superficial changes. The Q2 Monochrom has had a monochrome make-over, exhibiting a clean matte black finish with now grey and white engravings on the top plate and body. The Leica red dot has also been removed, which with the monochrome make-over provides a sleeker and more discreet finish to the camera.
Powerful
Despite the changes to the sensor and superficial changes, the Q2 Monochrom still exhibits Leica's incredibly high level of craftsmanship and the use of premium materials that ensure maximum durability and quality. Like the standard Q2, the Monochrom is lightweight, durable and features the same IP rating of 52, making it dust- and splash water-proof. The camera is sleek, stylish and still features that vintage and classic Lecia feel. The sensor has had its monochrome adjustments that have increased low-light performance, offering an ISO range of 100-100,0000. This is still coupled with Leica's Maestro II image processor which together have the power to produce stunningly detailed and clarity-rich images and video. And of course, you still have the scope to capture 4K video footage with up to 30 fps and full-HD video with 120, 60, 30, or 24 frames per second.
The 28mm Prime Lens
The Q2 Monochrom features the same Leica Summilux 28mm f ASPH lens but with a slight tweak. The lens on the Monochrom is kitted with a dedicated built-in macro feature which offers yet another layer of versatility in your arsenal. This means that despite the fixed 28mm focal length, you have this new macro feature and the integrated digital zoom that enable focal lengths of 28mm, 35mm, 50mm and 75mm, all whilst retaining the camera's native 47.3-megapixel image resolution.
From a lens construction point-of-view, the lens is the same. It features the same advanced lens structure comprised from 11 glass elements in 9 groups, including 3 aspherical elements. This combination produces impressively sharp and detailed images, and the aspherical elements contribute to this quality by significantly reducing the appearance of chromatic aberrations. We've discussed the versatility of this lens and rightly so because the 28mm native focal length lends itself to street, architecture or portrait photography, but then you have the option to experiment with the digital zoom and macro feature, all with the native image resolution. As well as this, you have the maximum aperture which allows you to play with depth of field, selective focus and the option of shooting in lower-light shooting situations.
Built For Convenience
An addition to the Leica Q2 is an energy-saving Bluetooth connectivity that offers fast and reliable wireless connectivity. Once this system is set up for the first time, the Q2 will automatically save the connection allowing quick connection to your smartphone or device even after you've turned your camera off and on again. Why is this useful? This can be combined with Leica's FOTOS app, making it easy to quickly share your photos with friends and family on social media. You can change various camera settings from your device and even remotely control your Q2's shutter release.
