In addition, the use of a floating element system maintains this high-performance throughout the focusing range.

Complete Flexibility

This lens has been designed to be as flexible as possible and to cater to a wide range of photographic situations. Thanks to the compact and lightweight nature of this lens, you could as easily take this lens out to capture street photography, as you could capture studio portraiture or weddings. This is thanks to an intricate and advanced lens structure that allows the whole lens to be so compact but still provide incredible image quality. The lens structure is comprised of nine floating glass elements that are in 5 groups. This includes the use of one aspherical element which controls spherical aberrations and distortion. The floating element system combined with the aspherical element is what provides incredible image quality throughout the entire focusing range.

The lens is also afforded a wide, bright and fast maximum aperture of F1.4. This maximum aperture, of course, allows you the flexibility to capture images in low-light situations where other lenses would struggle, but it also allows you much greater control of depth-of-field for selective focus. As well as this, the lens is able to achieve outstanding imaging performance at closer focusing distances, thanks to creating a floating group of lenses placed behind the aperture blades. This group of lenses will change position relative to the front lens group whilst you focus on your subject.
