Optical Design

As you'd expect from Laowa, this 14mm F4 FF RL Zero-D Lens features an advanced optical structure that is what enables such a high level of image quality. The optical makeup of this lens comprises 13 glass lens elements, arranged into 9 groups. This includes the use of two aspherical elements and one ultra-high refractive index glass elements that are used to help control distortion and spherical aberrations resulting in increased sharpness and accurate colour rendering. There are also three extra-low dispersion elements that are used to reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations for higher clarity and colour accuracy.

Versatile Shooting

With such a wide 114° angle of view that is achieved from the 14mm focal range, this is an ideal lens for landscape and travel photography. Additionally, thanks to the rectilinear design that removes optical distortion that is often found in wide-angle lenses, this is also well suited to architectural photography. The lens features a five-blade diaphragm with a versatile and flexible aperture range from F4 to F22. The five-balded diaphragm produces distinct 10-point sun stars and specular highlights in your out of focus areas and is particularly effective when utilising the minimum focusing distance of just 28cm. Finally, the lens features a built-in petal-shaped lens hood that reduces stray light from entering the lens that causes lens flare, as well as offering some physical protection to the front lens element.
