The Laowa 12mm f2.8 Zero-D is a seriously wide-angle prime lens that features a rectilinear optical design. It has been specifically created to limit distortion for accurate and clear portrayals of landscapes and architectural subjects. This full-frame compatible lens is built up of 16 elements in 10 groups with a 7 blade aperture - to include 2 aspherical and 3 extra-low dispersion elements. These specific elements control both spherical and chromatic aberrations for improved sharpness and reduced colour fringing. This 12mm lens features an efficient manual focus design with a floating optical system - reliably accurate rendering throughout full focus range (18cm - infinity). It’s also highly durable, with a Frog Eye Coating to repel dust and moisture from the front of the lens. A built-in petal-shaped lens hood further reduces flare and ghosting when dealing with intense lighting conditions. This lens is best suited for astro, landscape and architectural photography.

  • FAQs:

    Why is architectural photography important?

The art of architectural photography (in a professional sense) is vital to capture images of structures that replicate the bold/imaginative statements that the buildings make when you look at them with the naked eye. An architect would have thought about every inch of detail, putting in the time and effort to create a design that evokes a certain emotion. It is therefore important for the photographer to put in the same amount of hard work to encapsulate the architect’s vision.

What does rectilinear mean in regard to lenses?

When it comes to photography, rectilinear relates to a lens that produces images where straight features (walls, buildings, windows etc.) appear with straight lines, as opposed to being curved. This means that the lens has little to no barrel or pincushion distortion - the Laowa 12mm f2.8 Zero-D lens being a perfect example of this.
