Up until now, Fujifilm’s X series models have been limited to face and eye detection AF alone. By introducing deep learning AI, the X-H2S offers a highly-advanced alternative subject detection autofocus that is capable of identifying a whole host of subjects even in light levels as low as -7EV. This new system is capable of keeping pace with everything from track cars, planes and trains, to birds, horses and dogs. The original face and eye detection have also benefitted from an impressive buff, expanding the scope of detection to pick up hairlines, glasses and even face coverings.

Never Miss A Moment

With an advanced intelligent autofocus functionality that’s 3x faster than Fujifilm’s previous X-T4 model, the X-H2S needed incredibly fast shutter speeds, and Fujifilm delivered. Delivering a powerful performance suitable for any professional photographer or filmmaker, the X-H2S offers continuous shooting at 15 frames per second with the mechanical shutter and up to 40 frames per second when the electronic shutter is deployed. These high-end speeds are supported by the camera’s high-capacity buffer, which also allows unlimited continuous recording and writing of JPEG and RAW files to a high-speed memory card when using the mechanical shutter.

Our Review

Why we love the Fujifilm X-H2S Digital Camera Body:

• Its new 26MP X-Trans 5 BSI Stacked CMOS sensor is big and powerful. It provides more detail and combined with the new processor, it offers excellent low light performance.
• The AF system has proved to be a huge step up - It’s quick, reliable and accurate.
• There are lots of ports! You’ve got so many options including a full-size HDMI slot which is great for all the video shooters out there. And, dual card slots! An SD UHS-II and a CFexress Type-B slot, which is great as it opens up different storage options for both stills and video shooters.

Use this camera for:

• This is a true hybrid camera and as such excels in both stills and video work.
• The AF system lends itself to fast-paced, action image capture. It locks on and maintains its focus on wildlife and sporting subjects.
• Continuous, blackout-free frame rates - which is amazingly good for capturing those action shots.
• An array of upgraded video specs do really expand the scope of this camera and what it is able to produce.

Look and feel:

• Like the X-H1, it differs from the form factor of most Fujifilm mirrorless cameras that we’re most familiar with. It has a more similar form factor to the classic DSLR shape than that of the X-Pro3 or X-T4. But with that, it’s going to be much easier to transition from Nikon or Canon, for example. Additionally, if you’re already a Fujifilm shooter, this is easier to get on board with despite the size differences.
• Unlike other Fujifilm cameras, the X-H2S doesn’t have lots of dials or manual controls. There’s a big screen on the top like its predecessor, a PASM dial, and front and rear control dials.
• The articulated screen - love it or hate it - we like it! And, for the second or two it takes to turn it around, it’s guaranteed to help you in a variety of different shooting scenarios.

Is it better?

• It’s safe to say - yes. The X-H2S is well and truly kitted out with all the bells and whistles, surpassing the popular X-H1 body.
• Pretty much every aspect of the camera sees improvements, with a specific focus on upgrading the video capabilities that result in a fully-fledged hybrid system.

In addition to the wide range of internal video recording features, Fujifilm has fully invested in the X-H2S’s external recording options, making this the ideal camera for filmmakers. The X-H2S can record F-Log or F-Log2, Apple ProRes RAW and Blackmagic RAW footage to an external device through the camera’s standard, Type A HDMI port.
