All About Speed

DJI has designed the RS 3 to get you up and running with ease. To get started, it’s as simple as pressing and holding the power button. This triggers the 3 axes to unlock whilst the gimbal automatically expands. Reinforcing this level of speed are the dual-layered quick-release plates for mounting your camera. With these plates, users can swap out a memory card or battery without having to worry about rebalancing.

Changing a lens is also less problematic with the added fine-tuning knob on the tilt axis. When you’ve attached a different lens, you can use the fine-tuning knob to slide the camera forward or backwards with millimetre-grade precision to achieve accurate balancing.

Professional Stabilisation

As the RS 3 weighs only 1.3kg (including gimbal, battery grip and quick-release plates), it benefits from an excellent weight-to-payload ratio and can easily be held in one hand. However, to support a whole host of production settings, the RS 3 boasts a maximum load capacity of 3kg to suit a wide variety of mainstream cameras.

The RS 3 has also benefitted from a stabilisation algorithm update. This 3rd-gen update provides a 20% increase in stability over the RSC 2 and is perfect for effortlessly managing low-angle shots, running scenarios, or switching between high and low positions. And, if you’re looking for even smoother results, the RS 3 uses a SuperSmooth mode to increase motor torque and further enhance stabilisation.

Customisable Controls

Taking a step up from the RSC 2, the RS 3 comes equipped with a 1.8-inch OLED full-colour touchscreen display that is 80% larger than its predecessor. With support for most Ronin app settings, users can intuitively navigate through the redesigned interface to set their parameters as desired.

The included gimbal mode switch also allows users to alternate between Pan follow, Pan and Tilt follow, and FPV modes at the touch of a button. The FPV mode selection can also be adjusted to 3D Roll 360, Portrait, or Custom, for a fully customisable experience.

Not only does the RS 3 provide users with ample control over the gimbal, but it also allows users to operate the camera's zoom, focus, shutter, aperture, and ISO using the front dial. This makes the RS 3 an incredibly efficient option for single-handed use.

Get Connected

Using Dual-Mode Bluetooth, several functions of the RS 3 can be controlled remotely. Once paired, users can use the wireless shutter control for recording at a distance, adjusting camera exposure directly in the Ronin app, or controlling the gimbal with the virtual joystick to get an integrated monitoring and control experience. A smartphone can also be attached to the NATO port on the RS 3 with the phone holder for wireless monitoring.

Stay Focused

With the release of the DJI RS 3 comes a newly designed battery grip. Featuring a cartridge-style build, the RS 3 battery grip makes swapping batteries and staying powered far more convenient. For almost indefinite use, DJI has included a USB-C style port, so you can make the most of your RS 3 even whilst it’s charging.

Storage and travel are also made easier as this grip is smaller in size compared to the RSC 2. With an extended runtime of up to 12 hours and support for 18W PD fast charging, the RS 3 battery grip packs enough power to handle continuous shooting throughout the day, so you can stay focussed on the creative side of production.

What is the difference between RSC 2 and RS 3?

Does the RS 3 have any intelligent functions?

The DJI RS 3 is designed to enhance your creativity with options for motion-lapse, tracking and panoramas. Motion-lapse allows you to record passages of time within the moving frame. Tracking repeats the camera’s path of movement to produce choreographed shots. Panorama steadily pans to create gigapixel panoramas straight from your camera.

Does the RS 3 have flexible handling options?

With multiple operation modes for using the DJI RS 3, handling your gimbal is both flexible and intuitive. These modes include support for Transportation and Storage as well as Vertical Shooting, Briefcase Mode for holding your gimbal close and Underslung Mode for getting low to the ground.

How is the briefcase handle used?

Most gimbal grips attach beneath the mounted camera so that it can be held upright and moved around with ease. To afford more creative flexibility, the DJI Briefcase Handle (2022) attaches above the mounted camera, so users can hold their gimbal from above. This makes it easier for your camera to get closer to the ground and achieve some impressive low-angle shots.

How does the focus motor work?

The focus motor works by using a cog system to adjust focus and/or zoom. The Gear Strip ties around the barrel of the lens and features a concave design that fits with the prongs of the motorised cog to create a pulley system. Once the Multi-Camera Control Cable is plugged into the correct port, the front dial of your RS device can be used to operate this motorised focus system.

Can focus/zoom be operated by the app?

Yes - when using the DJI RS Focus Motor, you can use the app to control focus and/or zoom. Simply enter the create tab and select ‘focus control’ to find an adjustable virtual dial.
