More about our range of compact binoculars
What are compact binoculars?
Compact means that the binoculars are lightweight and handheld. They are suitable for storing in pockets, bags, for travel and quick use.
Compact binoculars are the most commonly found and used type of binoculars. Most of our customers prefer the ease of use, portability and weight over a larger magnification. They are most suitable for wildlife, hiking, travel, sporting events and many other uses.
What makes binoculars compact?
All binoculars have two numbers in their name. The first is the magnification expressed as 10X, 20X, 50X and so on. This is the magnification beyond what your naked eye provides. The larger the magnification, the more powerful the binoculars.
The second is the objective lens diameter. Generally speaking, a smaller lens diameter means that the binoculars will be smaller in size.
We class binoculars as ‘compact’ when the lens diameter is 25mm or smaller.
Do I need compact binoculars?
Compact binoculars are a great choice to keep at hand, or in your pocket. A more convenient size does mean that you will sacrifice some magnification.
Compact binoculars usually offer a magnification of 8X or 10X. If you require a higher magnification consider a more powerful binocular.

When buying a pair of binoculars you will soon notice that each pair has a set of two numbers following their name, such as “7x50” or “8x32”. The first figure is the magnification, which indicates the number of times larger an object will appear when viewed. The second figure indicates the size of the object lens in mm; the larger it is, the brighter the images will seem. View our Binoculars Buying Guide for more information »
