Refractor or Reflector?
Which one should I be going for? Well, there is a distinct difference between the two types and each type has its own advantage. Reflecting telescopes use mirrors inside the tube, whereas refractor telescopes use lenses and therefore, are often bigger and heavier. Because of this, refractors have become popular as cheaper, lighter and more portable telescopes (great for beginners too). Generally though, refractor telescopes tend to be better for observing planets and the moon and reflectors are better for deep-sky objects, such as galaxies and nebulas.
