• It’s the ideal everyday lens - it has a wide focal range and caters to all sorts of photographic genres.
• It has the RF-S lens mount and just like the Canon EF-S lens mount, you can put these lenses on their full-frame counterparts. You just have to remember to put the camera into APS-C mode. This is Canon’s way of making the entire RF and RF-S range as accessible as possible.
• The STM motor offers quick and quiet AF, and it has image stabilisation up to 7 stops depending on the camera you use.

• This lens offers a wide optical range with a 35mm full-frame equivalent focal range of 29-240mm, so you have the scope to use this as an all-day lens while you’re out and about.

Look and feel:

• Compared to other similar lenses, it’s a pretty small lens for the focal range that you’re getting! It’s only 300g!
• It’s a simple set-up with no exterior controls and just a large, rubberised control ring that can be customised for exposure values, autofocus mode etc. - it feels great, it's smooth and efficient.

Is it better?

• Canon offers another similar lens designed for their EOS-M systems and it’s safe to say that these two lenses are very similar. They’re essentially the same lens for different systems - they are both very compact and lightweight, and offer image stabilisation that is great if the camera body you’re using doesn’t have its own IBIS.
• Something that would be ideal would be weather sealing. Without this, of course, it somewhat limits you. But with planning or protective measures, this shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Also, the aperture isn’t particularly fast, but for the price and optical range - it’s not bad.
