The EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM is the worlds first super telephoto lens incorporating "Multi-Layer Diffractive Optical (DO) Element", for camera lenses, which corrects chromatic aberrations. By incorporating this optical element in the optical design, the EF 400mm f/4 IS USM is much smaller and lighter than a comparable lens having conventional optical elements. Comes complete with Canon ET-120 lens hood.

Diffractive Optics technology
A unique approach to lens design. The EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM incorporates a multi-layer Diffractive Optical (DO) element, meaning it is smaller and lighter than lenses of conventional equivalent design. The DO element - developed by Canon - is a milestone in optical design, combining the properties of fluorite and aspherical elements in one.
L-series quality
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
Image stabilization
The EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM features Image Stabilisation technology that permits the use of shutter speeds two stops lower than normal without blur from camera shake.
Ultrasonic focusing
A ring-type ultrasonic motor drives autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
Super Spectra coating
Super Spectra coatings ensure accurate colour balance and enhance contrast. They also reduce flare and ghosting - a common problem caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor.
