The Fuji X-Pro1 with the FX 35mm f/1.4 lens

The inclusion of a new 16.1 megapixel APS-C sized X-Trans CMOS Sensor makes the X-Pro1 a very exciting camera indeed and it presents a compelling alternative to an APS-C sensor DSLR. Inspired by the random arrangement of grain in film, a new colour filter array minimises both moiré and false colour issues and eliminates the need for an optical low-pass filter.

It isn't small or light when compared to other interchangeable lens system cameras in the market, but the X-Pro1 doesn't appear to be competing with them directly in this sense. It's a camera for serious enthusiasts who appreciate the styling and functionality of traditional rangefinder cameras.

Hybrid Viewfinder

The X-Pro 1 boasts the next generation Hybrid Viewfinder, building on the successes of the X100. As in the first X-series camera, you can still switch between Hybrid and Optical Viewfinder options using the switch on the front of the body (which now points down rather than up) and both options are compatible with all three prime XF lenses. Framing in the optical viewfinder will automatically change when different XF lenses are mounted and the EVF will display 100% coverage on an 1,440,000-dot colour LCD.

Live view is, of course, an option on the X-Pro 1 as well and is displayed on a 3.0" RGBW 1,230,000 dot LCD screen - a slightly larger and significantly higher resolution version of the screen on the X100.

X Mount Lenses

Alongside the X-Pro1, Fuji have announced the first three X-mount lenses which are sure to excite Fuji X-series enthusiasts: a lightweight 18mm f/2 R pancake Lens, a 35mm f/1.4 R Lens and a 60mm f/2.4 R Macro Lens. These three new prime lenses feature an all-glass aspherical lens, aperture ring control and are of metal construction, which gives a reassuringly solid feel. All of these XF lenses also come equipped with their own metal lens hood, which is a nice bonus too.

lens-lineup

Fuji have worked to reduce the back focus distance as much as possible with the new X Mount system. It boasts a short 17.7mm flange back distance, wider opening and deeper lens mounting - all which contribute to keeping back focus distance to a minimum to prevent loss of light volume and enhance resolution.

Accessories

There are a range of new accessories that will be available to complement the X-Pro 1 and XF lenses, including the HG-X Pro1 Hand Grip, an EF-X20 Shoe Mount Flash, a LC-X Pro1 Leather Case (there will be an additional case available for the 60mm lens), a 39mm Protector Filter (for the 60mm f/lens) and 52mm Protector Filter (for the 18mm and 35mm lenses).

The Fuji X-Pro1 will also be compatible with the Fuji EF-42 Flashgun and the EF-20 Flashgun, which are already available as part of the wider Fuji accessory offering.
