This latest addition to Fujifilm’s X Series is as capable as it is stylish. The X-A5 boasts a 24.2MP APS-C sensor, eye-detection AF, a 180 degree tilting touch-screen and Bluetooth connectivity. Despite weighing a mere 496g, the X-A5 manages a best-in-class battery life of 450 shots per charge and is fitted with a new processor that’s 1.5x faster than previous models. This camera is also the first X-A model to feature phase-detection pixels — its intelligent-hybrid AF system focuses twice as fast as previous systems.
Fujifilm states that the X-A5 is the “perfect choice for photographing human subjects,” thanks to improved SR+ AUTO mode, colour reproduction performance and skin tone reproduction. When the rear LCD monitor is rotated by 180 degrees the rear command dial automatically switches to operate the zoom and shutter release functions (ideal for selfies). The same action also activates Eye AF to ensure the sharp focus of a subject’s eyes. If that wasn’t enough, the camera’s Portrait Enhancer Mode allows users to select from three levels of skin tone enhancement, with touch-screen operation for easy, natural and flattering portraits.
X-A5 users aren’t just limited to taking stills. The presence of a high-speed HD video function allows the recording of HD video up to quad speed for slow-motion clips. A Multi-Focus Mode automatically stacks 4K quality images, and 4K video recording at 15fps is also available.
The FUJINON XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens will be available in silver or black.
FUJINON XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens
Fujifilm’s FUJINON XC 15-45mm lens weighs just 135g, making it the smallest and lightest interchangeable zoom lens available for X Series cameras. The optical design of this tiny lens features 10 elements in nine groups, including three aspherical and two extra-low dispersion elements.
The focal length ranges from 23mm to 69mm (in 35mm equivalent), making it a versatile choice — particularly suited for landscape, portrait and street photography. The FUJINON XC 15-45mm can also be used to photograph close-up imagery; set to its widest angle it can achieve a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.24 and can focus on subjects around 5cm from the end of the lens.
The FUJINON XC 15-45mm owes its small size to the presence of an electronic zoom, featuring two different zoom speeds, operating at a smooth and constant motion. The autofocusing system is powered via a stepping motor drive for silent and speedy AF, and the inclusion of optical image stabilisation (3-stops) increases low light performance.
