Two new additions to the Tamron stable – the 10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II VC HLD and the SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2
The Tamron 10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II VC HLD is an ultra-wide-angle lens for APS-C DSLR cameras, a successor to the SP AF10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Aspherical which Tamron launched back in 2008.
This new model features improved optical performance, a new Vibration Control (VC) image stabilisation system which Tamron says should provide up to four stops of stabilisation. Elsewhere there’s moisture-resistant construction, fluorine coating and Tamron’s new HLD – High/Low Torque Modulated Drive Motor. The design of the lens has also been refreshed.
The focal range of this lens is the highest in its class, i.e. of ultra-wide zoom lenses for APS-C DSLR cameras. Tamron suggests that the focal range will make the lens useful for a broad range of photographic genres, including street scenes and landscapes.
The optical design consists of 16 elements in 11 groups, including a Low Dispersion (LD) element, an XLD glass element, a moulded glass aspherical element and a hybrid aspherical lens.

The new Tamron SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 is designed for full-frame cameras, and has been thoroughly overhauled to deliver superior performance.
Its optical, mechanical and electronic components have all been reworked and enhanced to improve autofocus performance and provide superior Vibration Compensation (VC) functionality for smooth image stabilisation.
Other new features include eBAND coating, fluorine coating and a moisture-proof and dust-resistant construction.
Tamron says this lens will deliver improved resolution and contrast reproduction compared to previous models, and in particular will produce outstanding bokeh across the entire zoom range thanks to its circular, nine-bladed diaphragm.
Consisting of 23 elements in 17 groups, the lens’s construction features Extra Low Dispersion and Low Dispersion elements to eliminate chromatic aberrations and ensure a high level of image quality from edge to edge.
The VC system has also been reworked, and uses a moving coil mechanism to deliver up to five stops of image stabilisation. The Ultrasonic Silent Drive motor delivers high-speed autofocusing.
