Nikon has refreshed its DSLR stable with the Nikon D5500. Read on to find out what’s new.
Nikon has added a new DSLR to its lineup, the Nikon D5500.
The D5500 builds on the feature-set of the D5300 model it replaces, with a 24.2MP DX-format sensor (without an anti-aliasing filter) and an ISO range of ISO 100-25,600, although a new addition is touchscreen functionality on the rear, vari-angle display – a first on a Nikon DSLR. Among other things, this allows the user to change camera settings and select a focus point simply by tapping the display.
Just above the display, Nikon has equipped the model with a pentamirror viewfinder that offers coverage of approximately 95%. As with the recent Nikon D750, the camera boasts a monocoque construction which is said to be lighter and slimmer than the D5300′s, while the grip has also been redesigned for better purchase.
On the inside, a 39-point AF system includes nine cross-type points for heightened sensitivity, and Nikon also claims to have improved contrast-detect AF speeds when using live view by 20% over the D5300.
The EXPEED 4 processing engine, meanwhile, allows for a 5fps burst mode at the camera’s full resolution, and also allows Full HD video recording up to 60/50p, with stereo microphones and the option of using an external microphone provided alongside.
Other notable features include built-in Wi-Fi for instant image transmission and the previously-seen Flat Picture Control option which is said to retain more tonal details in shadow and highlight areas.
