Two new compacts have come from Canon today, with the 1.0-inch-sensor PowerShot G7 X Mark II launching alongside the travel zoom PowerShot SX720 HS
The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II
The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II is a pocket-sized camera that captures high-quality stills thanks to its 1.0-type sensor.
Other features include Canon’s DIGIC 7 processor under the bonnet, a fixed 8.8-36.8mm (35mm equivalent 24-100mm) f/1.8-2.8 lens inherited from the original G7 X, and 4-stop image stabilisation using Dual Sensing IS technology.
The dual function Lens Control Ring allows for quick switching between smooth or step action.
The G7 X also shoots Full HD 60p movies with advanced focusing features such as MF Peaking and Touch AF. The 5-axis Advanced Dynamic IS with Auto Level also works to keep footage nicely smooth and shake-free.
Elsewhere, you’ve got 14-bit Raw shooting, in-camera Raw processing, Wi-fi and NFC connectivity, and 8 fps burst mode.
PowerShot SX720 HS
Also announced today is the Canon PowerShot SX720 HS, a pocket-sized travel camera with a 40x optical zoom.
The intelligent optical image stabilisation system, with power IS mode, ensures the camera remains usable even at the long end of the zoom, also helped by Zoom Framing Assist.
The 20.3 MP CMOS sensor produces crisp and sharp images, while the DIGIC 6 processor powers 5.9 fps sustained continuous shooting. Fleeting moments can be captured on the fly thanks to the fast 0.11-sec autofocus.
The SX720 HS shoots Full HD 60p movies, incorporating 5-axis Dynamic Image Stabiliser and Auto Level.
There’s no shortage of other features on the new travel zoom, including Wi-fi with Dynamic NFC, Hybrid Auto assist mode and a 3-inch rear LCD with a resolution of 922K dots.
