The new fast portrait lens from Nikon promises pro-level quality and an exceptional degree of control
A successor to Nikon’s NIKKOR 105mm f/2.5 lens, the new AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED is built with an all-new optical construction to deliver premium edge-to-edge sharpness and pronounced bokeh.
Nikon claims that the engineering team has paid extra attention to resolution at the outer edges of the frame, and as a result flare and vignetting have been effectively minimised.
According to Nikon, the unique optical design ensures intense image blur for strong, smooth bokeh with no rough edges.
The nine rounded aperture blades reduced diffraction, while the electromagnetic aperture mechanism offers stable auto-exposure control even during burst mode. The lens includes Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for smooth and quiet autofocus.
Nano Crystal Coat is included to reduce ghosting and flare, while three extra-low dispersion elements minimise chromatic aberration. A fluorine coat on the front and rear elements makes them easier to clean.
The lens has a 1m minimum focusing distance, and is constructed of 14 elements in nine groups. It is FX and DX compatible.
