Expanded Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro Key Features:
Pro Level
The 6K Pro brings some serious new additions to the Pocket Cine Camera party. Firstly, the new built-in 2,4 and 6 stop ND filters provide acute reductions in the amount of light that enters the camera. They have been designed specifically to match the colourimetry and colour science of the 6K Pro, providing additional latitude even under the harshest of light. The up/down tilting HDR LCD screen now features a bright 1500 nits for use in direct sunlight, whilst two mini XLR audio inputs give you the ability to record two separate audio tracks with individual microphones. When it comes to battery life, the Pro model requires larger NP-F570 batteries to keep you powered for longer. Within the world of consumer-available cine cameras, the Blackmagic 6K Pro has come to make a real statement.
The Hollywood Aesthetic
If you have big plans for a feature film, TV pilot, or documentary series, the 6K Pro is the camera for you. As it is such a versatile pocket cine camera, you can add some serious production value to your vlogs, YouTube content, and even shoot an experimental short film. In layman's terms, the 6K Pro provides deeper colours, higher image detail, and a wider dynamic range between the brightest highlights and the deepest shadows. Whatever your next project, this camera will be sure to give it that sought after ‘Cinematic Look'.
In regards to the post-production process, 3D LUTs have been implemented to add your desired ‘look' to your footage whilst monitoring. This means that you get a much better idea of how the final film will look. Temporary LUTs can be assigned during monitoring, or they can be recorded into the Blackmagic RAW files for use in post-production. This camera utilises industry-standard 17 and 33 point 3D LUT files, alternatively, it can work with the built-in LUTs such as Extended Video, Film to Video, Film to Rec.2020 and many more.
Dual Gain ISO
When you require a stunning night-time scene to bring your film production to a dramatic close, the 6K Pro has got you covered. This is due to the dual gain ISO of up to 25,600 - optimised to minimise grain or noise in images, while at the same time maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor. When there isn't the time to set up a full lighting rig, the gain can be set automatically as you adjust the ISO setting on the camera. If you are more of a guerilla-style filmmaker out in the field, the dual gain ISO can be a real game-changer.
Custom Connections
The 6K Pro is awash with a range of connections for audio, monitoring, and power. A full-size HDMI output can even be utilised for on-set monitoring with support for HDR and clean 10-bit output. Two mini XLR audio inputs give you the ability to record two separate audio tracks with 48-volt phantom power respectively, whilst the USB-C connection allows the user to connect and record directly to the media disk. Another great feature from Blackmagic is the duplicated controls and menu systems used across their range of cinema cameras, prioritising an efficient workflow on set. The user also acquires full control over advanced camera features such as exposure tools, 3D LUTs, HDR, and Blackmagic RAW.
For shooting 6K in the highest quality 12-bit Blackmagic RAW, simply connect to a high-speed external disk via the USB-C Expansion Port. This operates at up to 5GB/s, so when the director calls "cut" for the last time that day, you can simply move the external disk to the computer and start the post-production process from the same disk - essentially eliminating file copying.
Stylish Yet Functional Hardware
Blackmagic cine cameras are known for their good looks and functional camera bodies. The 6K Pro is no different, with the multi-functional handgrip sporting a comfortable and familiar design with essential functions such as ISO, WB and shutter buttons. Confusing menu structures and tiny LCD screens are a thing of the past, with the 6K Pro offering easy to reach recording and still buttons that are placed exactly where you expect them to be found. This includes user-assignable function keys and control buttons for high frame rate, focus zoom, menu operation, playback, and much more.
Constructed from a lightweight carbon fibre polycarbonate composite, this camera feels good in the hand and features so many customisable controls at your fingertips. These include; ISO, WB, as well as shutter angle. Since this is an advanced digital camera, it also features a sensor that is designed to reduce thermal noise. This allows for cleaner shadows and higher ISO. In addition to this, the up/down tilting HDR LCD screen makes it possible to obtain the perfect focus at both 4K and 6K resolutions respectively.
