The Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor is ideal for editors who are always on the go; macOS and Windows compatibility (edit systems must run Davinci Resolve). The key benefit is that you are able to use the keyboard shortcuts to quickly and efficiently navigate your edit system. It is also incredibly compact for editing on-location, and the built-in battery gives you the option to use the Speed Editor via Bluetooth. The built-in Search Dial is similar to the Jog wheel found on most professional edit desks, however, the Search Dial is even more powerful. The Speed Editor also includes dedicated push buttons to control edit modes, timeline navigation, and effects of DaVinci Resolve. These push buttons further provide shortcuts to features unique to this product - connects to your computer via an optional USB Type-C cable; use this same cable to charge the device.
Firstly, even though the Speed Editor's panel is small and does not include a Qwerty keyboard, it has an abundance of dedicated push buttons for fast-access to features and to efficiently navigate the timeline. Secondly, keyboard shortcuts replace dragging clips from the trim windows to the timeline or making edits with the mouse when you have switched to different modes in Resolve. This includes: Smart Insert (Resolve locates the nearest edit in the timeline and inserts the clip into this location), Append to End (adds the clip to the end of the timeline edit with the In and Out points you have previously selected), Close-Up (auto-creates a partially zoomed-in version of the shot you have selected, placing on top of the timeline), Ripple Overwrite, Place on Top and Source Overwrite.
The Speed Editor comes with a range of function buttons, some unique to this product to include: Escape and Undo, Sync Bin, Audio Level and Markers, Full-Screen Viewer, Add Transition, Split and Move, and Snap and Viewer Size (enables the play head to pause for a moment at each edit point when scrolling through the edit with the search dial - holding it down allows you to adjust the viewer size).
The Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor supports controlling Davinci Resolve either via Bluetooth connectivity or hardwired with an optional USB cable. Due to the Speed Editor's integrated battery system, it allows you to work wirelessly and charges via an optional USB port; ideal for use with either a full-sized keyboard or laptop.
Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio 18 is the latest iteration of the popular professional colour-grading software. It is packed with new features including image processing for the latest wide gamut HDR, AI-based magic mask and much more. At home in Hollywood edit studios, DaVinci Resolve is used by industry professionals for editing, colour correction, visual effects, motion graphics and audio post-production. The modern interface is simple enough to grasp for beginners and gives professional users the ability to prioritise a fast, efficient workflow. Imagine having your own post-production studio in one application. It's fast, user-friendly and identical to the system used by Hollywood professionals.
The new Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor has a revised key layout; updated with feedback direct from pro editors. You are still presented with the traditional editing features for both the cut and edit pages in DaVinci Resolve, this means that the core QWERTY area of the keyboard operates in a familiar manner. All standard edit modes are included on the main keyboard and JKL trimming is available when you wish to do playback and trimming via the keyboard and not the search dial. New features also include a viewer button for instant ‘change to full-screen view', and it is also now possible to edit from the keyboard in full-screen.
