Portable Broadcast Quality Switcher

Similar to the ATEM Mini, the ATEM SDI is a portable solution for live production. This new model, however, features 3G-SDI outputs to allow users to connect broadcast quality cameras and recorders - such as the Blackmagic Studio Camera or the URSA Broadcast G2. Whether you’re shooting on location or in a studio, with the ATEM SDI you can stream professional multicam footage for YouTube, Twitch, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and more.

The switcher itself has large, simple input buttons for anyone to pick up and use. Users can cut and transition between different camera angles, display picture-in-picture effects, mix audio and more. At the back of the switcher are 8 SDI inputs for multicam setups, 4 SDI outputs for monitors, 2 3.5mm audio inputs for microphones, 2 USB-C ports for working with streaming software on computers, an ethernet port for creating an internet connection, and a headphone jack.

ATEM Software Control Panel

Included with the ATEM SDI is the world’s most advanced live production switcher control software: ATEM Software Control. Created for Mac and Windows, this app provides even greater control and creativity when using the ATEM SDI. The interface has been specifically designed to make quick and accurate inputs, and is split between Switcher, Media, Audio and Camera pages.

Switcher allows direct source switching and users can also preview transitions and effects before putting them on air. There is even the ability to adjust transitions and make them unique for your shoot. The Media page is used as a media pool for uploading up to 20 RGBA graphic files for use on air as overlays. Users can also preview files and playback files stored in the media pool. The Audio and Camera pages grant greater control to microphones and cameras connected to the ATEM SDI.

Smooth Post Production

The ATEM SDI Pro and Extreme models feature additional functions for storing and editing live stream footage. Users can record streams onto USB flash disks using the USB-C port, but a USB hub can be used instead to record extended shoots onto multiple disks without interruption. Images used from the media pool are saved with the video files, and the files themselves include synced timecodes and other metadata.

For video editors, the ATEM SDI Pro and Extreme saves the production as a DaVinci Resolve project file, allowing users to open the shoot in DaVinci with a single click. Editing multiple streams can be daunting but the ATEM SDI is clever enough to load in all effects and graphics used. The DaVinci Resolve Sync Bin displays the edit in a multiview interface to help keep track of things and all ISO files are automatically aligned by timecode. Fine-tuning live streams has never been easier.
