The AtomX CAST is a multi-functional production tool that promises to level-up your multi-camera programs with ease. But that’s not all, as the AtomosX CAST can also add broadcast-quality features to your online meetings, presentations, remote learning, virtual conferences, and promises to improve your client’s overall digital engagement. The system is incredibly easy to use, with flexible control options for when paired with the Atomos Ninja V/V+ (sold separately). In short, this allows you to use either the touchscreen or tactile function buttons to switch between sources during your broadcast. With illuminated buttons set to each input and coloured LED lighting for Program and Preview status, you can still confidently interact with the CAST in dimly lit environments.

The ability to connect any full HD video source further cements the AtomX CAST as a versatile, flexible, and reliable HDMI input switcher. You can connect directly to your DSLR cameras, video cameras, computers, consoles, or even pre-recorded content via HDMI. Synching various frame rates is also a thing of the past, as it allows you to mix and match frame rates up to 60p, in addition to interlaced and progressive HD sources automatically.

Without the need for an additional monitor, you can view incoming signals and program out all via the integrated monitor on your docked Ninja V/V+ (sold separately). In relation to the Ninja V, this monitor is equipped with a 5” IPS LCD screen that is illuminated by a bright 1000 cd/m² LED backlight. You afforded key production features to include logos, overlay graphics, key brand implementation, and picture in picture. This guarantees to enhance the overall production value of your footage, with support for transparency, sponsors’ logos and other on-screen information. A key benefit of the AtomX CAST with a multi-camera setup is that the intuitive Picture in Picture function allows you to display dual inputs at the same time. This can be done with any of the four available HDMI inputs, with controls related to size and location of the overlaid image.

As the AtomX CAST is so versatile and compact, it has the capacity to seamlessly fit within a solo workflow one day, and then within a vast production team the next. Solo operators can simply pack the Ninja CAST (combination of the additional Atomos Ninja and AtomX CAST) in a small backpack and use it discreetly with compact mirrorless cameras for productions of varying sizes. When it comes to multi-faceted production teams, the Ninja V/V+ (sold separately) HDMI output can be utilised as a secondary output. This can then be set as a duplicate program out, preview monitor for crew/talent, or to connect a larger multiview display.

With full plug-and-play functionality, it works immediately with the vast majority of video applications to include Zoom, Teams, and Skype without the need for additional drivers or time-consuming installations. When complete, you have the capacity to add up to 4 camera inputs to push your presentation or meeting to the next level. Picture in Picture mode is also great here as it means that you can display a close-up of a product or subject on your desk and then simultaneously have an image of yourself. This means that you can talk clients through your thinking process, host more interactive presentations, and add serious production value to your conferencing calls.

External Video Processing

In its purest form, the AtomX CAST (when connected to the Ninja V/V+), stands as a high-functioning stand-alone switcher, but it can also be used to further advanced video work via your computer. In short, the AtomX CAST and Ninja V/V+ actively takes the load off your computer and massively reduces the likelihood of software crashes via dedicated external video processing. To do so, simply add AtomX CAST as a media source in OBS, X-SPLIT and VMix to ensure full support for the software application’s additional graphics and scene configuration whilst the CAST is in video input switching mode.

When utilising pro-level 10bit/4:2:2 inputs, you are provided with broadcast-quality switching, as well as the ability to record in broadcast-quality codecs such as Apple ProRes or Avid DNx.

Does this come with the aforementioned Atomos Ninja V?

The Atomos AtomX CAST does not come with the Atomos Ninja V. This must be purchased separately, but can also be found within the Atomos AtomX NinjaCast Bundle, which includes both the AtomX CAST and Ninja V.

Can you utilise the AtomX CAST in low-light situations?
