What do the numbers mean?
All binoculars have two numbers in their name. The first is the magnification, expressed as 10X, 20X, 50X and so on. This is the magnification beyond what your naked eye provides. The larger the magnification, the more powerful the binoculars.
The second is the objective lens diameter. Generally speaking, a larger lens diameter coupled with a large magnification provides the best high power performance.
10X42 provide a magnification of 10X and a lens diameter of 42mm.
What are 10X42 binoculars used for?
10X42s are the most popular binocular size by a large margin. Our customers love them because the magnification power of X10 provides a great range with which to view small objects. Couple this with a relatively large lens diameter means what you’re viewing is bright, colourful and crystal clear.
At this size, we still class the binoculars as medium-sized. This means they are still small and light enough to be comfortable in your hand, or on a strap, but substantial enough to capture fantastic detail. If you are looking for something more compact, however, consider something from our compact binocular range.
10X42s are great all-rounder binoculars used for wildlife and birdwatching, sports safari and anything you can throw at them.
